Photos
Photos I've taken wtih my Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 7D, which are both wonderful cameras! Some additional photos are here on the Travels page.
Many of my photos are also on my brand new photography site, stevesickels.com.
Black and White
I've been enjoying trying out new things with my photography: long exposures, and black and white photography.
Here's my first image with a new toy -- a Lee "Big Stopper," a neutral density filter that lets in only 1/10 of the available light. It allows for long exposures, which does cool stuff to flowing water and moving clouds. This image is from Great Falls National Park, Virginia.
Here's a black and white conversion of a photo of an iris, from our yard -- a beautiful flower!
And Denali (the peak to the left). More photos from our trip to Denali National Park are here.
One from Iceland. This was a "small" detail upstream of Gulfoss, a huge and dramatic waterfall. On a rainy day (tough to keep the camera and lens dry!). More Iceland photos are here. More Iceland photos here.
One from Maine. This twisted tree trunk is so cool! More Maine photos here.
These black and white photos are also on my new photography website, at stevesickels.com.
Iceland
Had a wonderful trip to Iceland -- a photo workshop with Richard Bernabe and Joe Rossbach. I have a full page on the trip here, but am including a few photos on this page as well.

Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
I enjoyed the Rose River Loop Trail so much two weeks ago that I just had to return for more photos -- such a beautiful place!
Along Rose River...
And along Hogcamp Branch.
A beautiful day for hiking the Rose River Loop Trail!
A bear, not too far from Skyline Drive. (With a 400 mm lens -- I was a respectful and safe distance away!)
Another lovely creature!

Huntley Meadows Park, Virginia
A Saturday morning at Huntley Meadows Park.
Red-winged blackbirds. Not only are they beautiful birds, but their call is -- for me at least -- a wondorous sound.
I heard the deep sounds of bullfrogs, and was actually able to see this noise-making creature! (Usually they're in the reeds, and frustratingly out of sight...)
Key West & Miami
We had a great vacation in Florida! More photos are here, on the Travels Page for our vacation.
Art Deco and neon in Miami Beach.
Coastal Maine
We had a wonderful trip visiting friends in Maine. A highlight was a "Puffin Watch" boat tour out to a small island where an Atlantic puffin colony is being reestablished. Saw other ocean birds (zooming around!) as well.
Common tern.
Northern gannet. They're big, with 4 to 5 foot wingspans. And are amazing divers.

Black guillemot -- with red feet!

Birds and a Rodeo in Florida
We had a great time visiting relatives in Punta Gorda, Florida. Many bird sightings at Ponce de Leon Park in Punta Gorda. And scroll down to see photos I took at the Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo. (Also, more rodeo photos are here, on a separate Web page.)
